Remix

woah what a crazy fantastic week it has been!

*deep breath*

26th July, Wednesday

The Pussycat Dolls concert was the absolute bomb! They're such strong dancers and awesome entertainers. Gila sexy babi sial and if you think they look hot in all their videos/pictures wait till you see them in person!! super lawa! They performed almost all the songs on their PCD album, my favourite being Sway. I'm sure most of you would have already heard that the concert was cut short to 45 minutes (i know a little toooo short) cuz of a tiff that was on between the ministry - organizers - and the dolls. biasa lah - it's malaysia you're not supposed to be "sexy" and all that crap. but what the ministry fails to realize is that half the girls in the audience were dressed far more sexy than the dolls. (and of course, most of them were malay girls).

somehow, that 45 minutes seemed ample cuz it was just too packed (10,000 attended according to the papers) and to top it of with all the body heat, the sizzling dolls and the tremendous lack of oxygen and fresh air it could make one pass out - but the dolls put on a great show, and it was worth it all! although, i have to admit that the location for the concert really sucked. we were on a man made beach and we stood on sand which made it very uncomfortable and there was hardly any breeze. there were many complaints that the ground was not leveled and in a slight gradient making it hard for some to see the stage. anyways, i had a great time! and i'm still hot on the dolls. haha i even got PCD printed on the back of my khakis (yes yes yes, lame i know but it looks cool) :D

Anyways, Dancesteps has been on a much needed 2 week break and its back to class this week. the senior dancers and teachers had a dinner gathering a week back at Montien Bangsar One. Good food there. Oh yummy good food.

us ladies with mentor Shirena in the center

Ooh, haha Shirena has been labeled the most stylish in Malaysia's Tattler Magazine. Hehe syok kan my teacher! ; ) We've got Samantha, Durrah, Hong Lee and Athirah back in town! Athirah can be seen in the local hit musical Puteri Gunung Ledang which is now playing once again due to popular demand. If you missed it the last time, don't miss it again this time! it's great!

Hehe this is what I really want to blog about, and it was about what had in my last entry which was the Season 4 Finals of Akademi Fantasia!

These are the Season 4 contestants. For those who don't know, Akademi Fantasia is a local reality tv show - something like American Idol in the sense that its a show geared at making one individual of the lot the star winner. Upon being selected to be part of the program, they are taken into a private bungalow where they are cut off from the world (yes, no handphone, no tv or any form of entertainment/communication with the outside world including family and relatives) and are trained to sing, dance and act. throughout these 3 months they will go through various stages of learning (hence the term Academy) blablabla and each week they perform live in concert where the audience votes for who their favourite is. so each week one contestant goes home until there are 5 left and that's where the finals come in.

the winner wins prize money, an apartment and a car and some other fabulous stuff like contracts with Astro, a record deal etc etc. Corrie (one of the dance instructors/choreographers of the show) whom i worked with in my first TVC 4 years ago asked if I would like to be a back up dancer on the finals. Without any hesitation I jumped at the opportunity and it's been so much fun ever since.

It was a lot of hard work doing this show. Crap I think if I were a contestant in this show I'd crack. Rehearsals started 2 days before the finals on Thursday. For the first time EVER I had to learn 6 routines in 4 hours. Argh! 2 of which were traditional Malay dances - the joget and the tarian lilin (i think that's what it's called. its the one where we dance with 2 candles in hand). I've never worked under so much pressure before. the steps for each routine were only taught once or twice and everything was moving at a very fast pace.

I felt very uneasy on the first night of rehearsals cuz I was the only one messing up A LOT of my steps and routines. We started at 6pm and finished at midnight. The fuck ups continued throughout Friday afternoon, to evening to night. which put a whole load of stress and pressure on my shoulders. I've never made so many mistakes before. Aaahhh but thankfully I didn't mess up on the actual show :D

You can catch countless repeats of the show on Astro's Interactive Channel 15. i was in front quite a lot and had a solo/pas de deux for (the now) AF4 champion Faizal ;D hehehe! It was such a wonderful experience doing this show, and it has taught me a lot of different things. i'd say most importantly it taught me how to hold my wits together when performing in front of a live crowd of ......... 10,000 (!!) and on a highly watched live tv show. the excitement is indescribable (errr having goose bumps already!)

i was very happy to be able to work with a team of dedicated individuals and dancers who were very friendly and easy to work with. always looking out for each other. it's so much fun working with people like this and its great cuz you get to learn new stuff and make very good friends at the same time.

hehe another good thing about doing this show was the delicious food that was provided for us! the nasi lemak was excellent! and they had ice cold ribenna and teh tarik. fuiyoh : )
